YOUR GATEWAY TO NEW ZEALAND
According to Walt Disney: "If you're going through hell, keep going..."
Pat Cox believes the fortunate will find New Zealand on the other side.
From the grey streets of Dublin, he worked his way up through documentaries and feature films in Ireland and England to move to the USA during the turbulent sixties. Still following his passion, he later became a News Cameraman, Editor and Producer, which took him around the world, including the Hades that was Belfast. Ten years later he'd seen enough and did,
indeed, keep going - to one of the most beautiful countries on the planet. New Zealand.
In 1973 Pat established himself as a free lance cameraman and film editor in the capital city of New Zealand, Wellington. Some years later with John Blick and Robert Tomei he set up The Partners Film Co.
During the next 10 years, in addition to live action production he developed an ongoing interest in animation and in 1981 became originating Producer/Co-Producer on "Footrot Flats" an animated feature film, released in 1986 it became one of Australasia's biggest grossing animation feature films.
Then, advertising agencies beckoned, and his record reads like an advertising dream. As Head of TV Production for Colenso Advertising in Wellington, he brought some of New Zealand's favourite commercials to the screen for clients such as Toyota, Bank of New Zealand, Mainland Cheese, Mobil and NZ Post.
This commitment to TV commercials was to continue when he became Head of Television Production for Saatchi and Saatchi Auckland in 1995. He worked on award winning and memorable campaigns for Steinlager, Speights, Lion Red, Air New Zealand, Auckland Airport Float, TV1 and TV2, to name a few.
Over that period, he filmed the length and breadth of New Zealand, which provided the momentum in 2001 to establish The Producer Board Ltd., an Independent Agency Producer resource.
Eight years later, as a Producer, his skills, experience and time are still in high demand. A series of M&C Saatchi - NZ Tourism 100% Pure commercials are presently being shown internationally, whilst his work with Mitsubishi and Sony Playstation have also brought the beauty of Aotearoa to the rest of the world. Locally, clients such as Coke, MasterCard, Telecom 027, Sanitarium, ANZ Bank, ING, DB Breweries, Sanitarium, TSB Bank, Xenical, Fujifilm, Sovereign Insurance and Fonterra have used his skills to great effect. He's also had further opportunities to work with animation on 28 Electoral Enrolment Television spots, which have been used in four election campaigns, and most recently the "Whole" water campaign for Sugar Advertising/Fonterra.
In 2005 the Australasian DVD Re release of Footrot Flats was a great success.
Pat Cox has travelled hundreds of thousands of miles to reach his destination, but it's been well worth the trip. He still continues to look forward though - to others stamping the "Proudly Produced in New Zealand" mark of quality on their work.
